Wednewsday 24 October

Image of the Week: the Life of Pi poster has been unveiled. Expect this to be one of the favourites around Award Season.

Good News: 2015 looks set to be the Year of the Superhero! Warner Brothers are storming ahead with their Justice League film, which will be released the same year as the Avengers sequel. But...

Bad News: ...don't expect Warner to walk away from this undamaged. Whilst, the Justice League film sounds tempting (Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman and The Flash and Aquaman all in the same film!), the truth is that the DC heroes are much less compatible than the Avengers and they lack the five-film build-up. Expect it to be rushed and messy and disappointing.

Mad News: the Twilight franchise is strongly-rumoured (emphasis on rumoured) to be getting its own spin-off series, focusing on Jacob and his wolf pack. Surely this will never happen? Right?

Trailer News: the first post-Avengers Marvel film is due out next year. Check out the trailer for Iron Man 3 below, including the first glimpse of Ben Kingsley's Mandarin.

Great News: speaking of Marvel, Clark Gregg will be reprising his role as Agent Phil in the S.H.I.E.L.D TV series which confirms that the show will be set before The Avengers.

Greater News: more Marvel news, casting rumours have begun about who will play Mary Jane in The Amazing Spider-Man sequel. Current favourite is Shailene Woodley, who impressed audiences as George Clooney's daughter in the Oscar-nominated The Descendants.

Trailer News: the remake of Carrie starring Chloe Moretz has a teaser trailer. View it below.

Good News: Matt Reeves will be helming The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Having delivered both Cloverfield and Let Me In, it will be interesting to see how he can develop the ageing franchise.

Better News: despite previous doubts, Marc Webb has committed to return to The Amazing Spider-Man sequel to add further humour and personality to the rebooted webslinger.

Best News: Seth McFarlane is hosting the 2013 Academy Awards!

Trailer of the Week: click below to watch the fantastically-edited teaser trailer for Die Hard 5 AKA A Good Day to Die Hard. The fifth instalment will feature John McClane reconnecting with his estranged son, Jack. Judging from the trailer, expect it to have more in common with the high-octane Die Hard 4.0 than the earlier trilogy.
