Wednewsday 30th May

Good News: Mads Mikkelsen (Bond villain and winner of Best Actor at Cannes 2012) is in talks to play a villain in Thor 2. But which villain?

Cannes News: Michael Haneke takes home the Palme d'Or for Amour, which tells the story of an elderly retired couple, Anne and Georges, and their troubles after Anne suffers a stroke leaving one side of her body paralysed.

Spoiler News: Christian Bale tells Empire Magazine that he would happily come back for Batman 4 if Nolan puts the right script together. I'm guessing Bane won't be snapping Bruce Wayne in half after all.

Poster News: new The Dark Knight Rises character posters have arisen. Ahem. Check out the Catwoman poster below. Miaow.

Trailer News: the Maniac trailer has slashed its way onto the web. Elijah Wood stars in this horror remake of the 1980s original as the titular maniac with an obsession for collecting scalps.

A Very Pixar Wedding

Huge news this week. So huge that I have to flip on the Caps Lock...

I GOT MARRIED!

As you would expect, there were plenty of film references dotted throughout the wedding. My Best Man took great pleasure in telling the guests that I sobbed my way through Titanic back in 1997. He even did a shout-out to the Big Fairbanski website, which earned him even more kudos.

Best of all, our wedding cake was a tribute to the greatest cinematic love story of all time. After rejecting Jack and Rose, Aragorn and Arwen and even Han and Leia, we settled on our all-time favourite Pixar couple: WALL.E and EVE!

The cake toppers were designed by Dawn Butler, the genius behind Dinkydoodle Designs. Her bespoke celebration cake website can be viewed here. I'm sure you'll agree, she did a fantastic job. Look how cute WALL.E and EVE look in their top-hat and veil.

And just like a Pixar film, the wedding was beautiful, magical, feel-good and full of tears & laughter. In fact, the only thing it was missing was a John Ratzenberger cameo.

Best. Day. Ever.

Wednewsday 23rd May

One day later than usual...

Good News: Lynne Ramsey is following her superb We Need To Talk About Kevin with the western Jane Got a Gun, about a widow looking for vengeance. Natalie Portman is set to star is the titular Jane.

Bond News: well, kind of. Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) will be putting aside sci-fi projects in order to direct the biopic of Ian Fleming, creator of James Bond. Jones is one of the most exciting upcoming British directors and this shows his willingness to challenge himself.

Remake News: Robin Williams will star in the remake of Israeli hit, The Angriest Man in Brooklyn, about a man who falsely believes he only has 90 minutes left to live. Expect Williams to be on top comedy form but also utilising his dark side, which we saw in Insomnia and One Hour Photo. And best of all, Game of Thrones' Peter Dinklage is co-starring.

Poster News: the latest The Dark Knight Rises poster can be view below. It doesn't reveal anything new about the film but at least it looks pretty cool.

Trailer News: massive news! The Skyfall teaser trailer was unveiled this week. Mendes' influence behind the camera is apparent throughout. Bond has never looked this good. Each shot is intricately-assembled, like a work of art, which hopefully means the over-use of shaky-cam in Quantum of Solace has been ostracised. Roll on October.

Wednewsday 16th May

Good News: Aaron Sorkin will be scripting a new Steve Jobs biopic, not to be confused with the other Steve Jobs biopic titled Jobs starring Ashton Kutcher. Sorkin has scripted zero-to-hero geek stories before (hello, The Social Network) so we know he is up to the task.

Ape News: Contagion writer Scott Z Burns has been hired to write the script for The Rise of the Planet of the Apes sequel. Let's hope it has a shorter title.

Thor News: Idris Elba is back for Thor 2 as gateway guardian Heimdall.

Anchorman News: just in case you thought it was too good to be true, the teaser poster for Anchorman 2 has been unveiled. Yep, it's actually happening.

Trailer News: 2012 is election year for America so what better time for a comedy about America democracy? The Campaign will see Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as rival congressman. The trailer is below.

Wednewsday 9th May

Good News: Rebecca Hall looks set to fill Jessica Chastain's role in Iron Man 3. More Brits in superhero films!

Kick-Ass News: Universal are moving forward with Kick-Ass 2. No word yet on which characters (or indeed actors) will be returning but Matthew Vaughn will not be back as director. He's too busy with his X-Men. But Jeff Wadlow, currently writing the script, is looking set to take the helm.

Agent Phil News: no, he isn't getting a spin-off. But Clark Gregg, who plays Agent Phil in The Avengers, has been cast in Jason Reitman's new film, Labor Day, about a divorcee and her son who pick up a stranger who happens to be an ex-convict. Let's hope it has more spark than Young Adult.

Avatar News: James Cameron told the New York Times: "Last year I basically completely disbanded my production company’s development arm. So I’m not interested in developing anything. I’m in the Avatar business. Period. That’s it. I’m making Avatar 2Avatar 3, maybe Avatar 4, and I’m not going to produce other people’s movies for them.” Do we really need three more Avatars?

Trailer News: The Amazing Spider-Man gets a third trailer showcasing even more new footage. It looks so much better than the Raimi trilogy: slicker, funnier and pumped with adrenaline and intrigue.

King News: Chloe Morezt will be starring as Carrie in the new adaptation of Stephen King's first novel. Julianne Moore will play her tormenting mother.

Expendable News: Arnie, Bruce and Sly firing machine guns. Best movie still ever?

Trailer News: the final The Dark Knight Rises trailer has arrived, now with added Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Is the Batwing too ridiculous for Nolan's world? Possibly. Does it look awesome? Hell yes!
